This book aims to provide the first-time manager with a grasp of what he or she needs to know in order to function at least reasonably well, and possibly a great deal better than that. It does not offer the depth of a major management qualification such as a MBA; but then, it costs several thousand pounds less and does not take several years to complete. It is, however, meant to provide in an evening’s read the main headings of what it took me many years’ experience and a lot of study to learn.
